Mac Book Pro - Crashed

I have recently experienced serious problems with my mac book pro, only after allocating a portion of the hard drive to windows via installing vmware. My notebook will not open beyond the log on screen.

I wanted to ask the groups advise on how to get my mac back...should I repalce the hard drive and re-install all software (excluding vmware)?

Can you see the login screen where you type in your password, or do you only get to the apple logo screen?

If you see just an apple logo upon boot up then your HDD might be failing.
