Mac Book Pro is froozen at the initial screen

I just recently installed the latest security patch and during re-boot the machine is stuck at the gray apple screen and the circle progress indicator.

I read other posts and booted of the Disk 1 and ran disk utility to clean up permissions.

The problem is still there!!! HELP!!!

Make sure you have all your peripherals unplugged from the computer, I've read that sometimes those can argue with updates.

Beyond that, I'm not quite sure... Since you can boot from the install disk, I would suggest reinstalling the OS if all else fails, but it's probably too early to do something so drastic.

Also, how long did you let it set on the grey screen?

the gray screen was there for at least 10 mins and I believe it will stay that way for ever.

I am trying to avoid a reinstall if possible. I don't see any mention of the new patch causing issues at the apple site.
