I'M TOO OLD AND TOO TIRED TO READY ALL OF THE HOW TOOS BESIDES I've been a member of this group for a number of years but had to register as a new user,
OK I got my MBP on the 13rd of August, and made my first tech call within minutes of arriving home and it's been almost non stop since. It seems like as soon as I get a day or two to work on it someone does something that gets my account locked. I've worked with the advisors for days and days and as soon as the get it working boom there it goes again. Currently it is locked out because of that "game" of name the password. I have tried and tried to get through to someone that I have a disability that keeps me from being able to remember passwords and I do write them down. My first mac is 10 years old and never a lick of trouble. Now in it's old age it needs a little backup to be able to carry the load so I got the MBP. The best thing I ever did was set the imac so it never had a password so it never needed one, I can't keep the one I have now going long enough to search for that wonderful no password switch. The last advisor I spoke to walked me through setting this one up the same way, but it won't stick for some reason. I need a lot of help with this machine or I need to get it a new home. Can someone please help without charging me anything to do it? I think that i where the problem began someone offered a password for Facebook and verbally accepted but never went through with it and after much harassment asked me how long I could go without Facebook and so far it's been it's been 4 months and I don't miss it at all. But the computer say naw it's all my imagination, or I have alzheimers or something else like that.. Anyway sorry about the book but I've been trying to get back in here for a long time. I really need some legitimate help.

Pro, I have spent days on the phone with tech support, I have even sent it back in and they say nothing is wrong with it.the password is always wrong. I can follow the steps to the letter with a tech on the phone and it will work fine, turn the mac book off one time and kaboom it will not start up again. I am at my wits end with this machine. I admit to having a severe disorder when it comes to remembering passwords, so I write them down but even that doesn't help with this machine.

I've only made one payment on it and I still have gotten no use out of it at all. I am not a computer idiot I've gotten all of the other passwords and managed to keep 3 other machines alive and well, but not this one. I have 10 years experience with Apple machines, iphone, ipads, you name it. Worse yet it's stuck on a screen photo I can't stand.

when you say 'tech support', you're talking about apple support? call them again, get this sorted, it makes no sense, and you need (and deserve) to get this resolved. good luck 👍

"I have a disability that keeps me from being able to remember passwords"

You're probably not going to like this reply.

It's going to be difficult to use the Mac OS these days without an administrative password.

You're going to be asked for that again, and again, and again, and...

So, you had better choose a password that you CAN remember, or start carrying around a little black book with your passwords readily accessible in it.

The latest versions of the Mac OS now have the new "Passwords" app that will help with passwords for various sites that you visit, BUT...
... you'll STILL need your "main" (administrative) password to access the app.

That's the way it is, and there really isn't any way around it.

Do you have a brick 'n' mortar Apple Store anywhere nearby?
If so, make an appt for the genius bar, and take it to them.
If it's still under warranty, they'll make it right.

If you're able to log into your other machines regularly, is it safe to assume that you've tried using one of your 'old' passwords as your new MacBook Pro's password already? In the other thread you say that you don't have a password on your machine, so I wasn't sure.

As for your disorder, that sucks and I'm sorry. What I've found helpful when coming up with passwords is using something that I would usually see in my line of sight or nearby that is mundane but specific with random capitalisation. For example 'SPRAYbleachBOTTLE100!!!' or 'green1234JEEP1234BADPARKING'. It's not secure and hopefully you'll have better options, but it's a handy way of having an invisible password reminder without a sticky note.
