Hi bought a Mac Book pro mid 2012 as christmas box and not working properly
...when originally turned on laptop it was slow and unresponsive - in the settings it said systems software update was required - we did this and attempted to restart laptop as instructed but then it will would not reboot at all - just a white screen and an error symbol
eventually it started - installed football manager but struggled with this...have since been told games not good on this due to graphics card... and nothing happening
now its fully charged but grey screen only showing... reluctant to go to apple as have been told it very expensive.. any advice would be very welcome.. thanks

It's not expensive to go to Apple and let them tell you what's wrong with it-if anything.
Walk into a store or make an appointment and avoid the wait, go to the Genius bar and they'll check it out for you for free. They are generally very good.
If it needs a reinstall or something like that, they'll do all that sort of thing for nothing.
If it's a hardware problem then yes, that can be expensive but what is the alternative?
