Hi All,
I have a 2015 Mac Book Pro and just replaced the hard drive and for some reason its not recognized by the system. I ran a live linux usb and created a fat partitioned disk hoping I would be able to restore to it. But no such luck. I have access to a USB key and a windows 10 box to work off of if needed. But other than that I think im stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you still have the original drive? If so, I’d replace the original drive, boot up, and attach the new drive via an external enclosure. Format with disk utility, and if you want to ensure an easy transition, install the OS you want to run on it. Then swap drives.

This original drive is dead. This is why I upgraded to this new drive. These are those Chip SSD cards so I would have to purchase another drive to do it with and a case

Ok do you have a bootable OS X installer? You can boot off of that. You may still need to install the drive in an external enclosure, but you could try to boot with the USB into disk utility and reformat the internal drive. Does that work, or does it give you the drive not recognized error?

<delete Linux nonsense>
What OS was on the machine before you replaced the drive? What are you replacing the drive with? Does it require a firmware update before it is usable?

Ok these are one of those SSD Chip drives and I will need to get a chassis for it. Then I can slave it in and see if I can format it that way.

I had catalina on it previously. Firmware might do it. Let me check the firmware out and see if that will help.

Not the drive's firmware, the Mac's firmware. But if you had Catalina on it already, you're probably ok on that front.
