Hi

I've got Late 2011 13" Mac Book Pro, it only charges (i.e. charge goes orange) when switched off. This means I cant charge battery whilst using it so have to use battery life instead.

Can anyone think of anything that I havent already tried which will fix this issue?

I have tried below:-

PRAM
SMC
Holding down power for 5 seconds then pressing it again (whilst battery is disconnected)
Replaced DC Board
Changed battery with brand new battery
Changed chargers as I have few and know they all work

Even when Mac Book is plugged in, it just uses battery power. I know nothing is wrong with DC board as its brand new and wouldnt charge at all if it wasnt working plus was still getting same issue before I replaced it.

Thanks

Unorthodox question, but does it charge in the recovery partition or in Safe Mode?

I havent tried that but I have reformatted drive, had Mountain Lion on it before then upgraded to Yosemite and still same issue.

wow, well it seems you've gone through the majority of options already.

Forgive me if you've already checked, but have you made sure that the charger (or any of the other chargers you tried) is the correct wattage for that model macbook?

Other than that, I'm stumped...

Hi

Yes, i've tried 4 x 60W adapters which I know are all working as they also charge once mac book is switched off. I doubt it would be an issue with adapters as if they wasnt working they wouldnt charge at all. I have got spare 85W charger but havent tried this as its for larger mac book.

I also have no idea why its doing this, as already changed DC Board, Battery and chargers so there isnt much left to check.

Thanks

Is there some level of logging/diagnostics to check - would anything show up in Console?
Any weirdness show in System Report (Hardware>Power) via System Information form the Apple icon menu?

Did you have Apple do the repairs or did you do them yourself?

Hi

I check system\power and it says battery is not charging. Do you need any other details from there?

I did repairs myself as been working in IT for 20 years and fixed macs before but not with this error. I changed DC board with iFixit and Youtube videos and still had same outcome.

Thanks

Hi

Sorry am only just getting back to you. Mac Book started charging for week whilst switched on but now gone back to only charging when switched off.

I tried 85W charger and had no light on charger and said it wasnt charging. I've already tried links but still same. How to get it to swap between GPU?

Any other ideas?

Thanks
