Doe's anyone know if they are going to be releasing a quad core mac book pro this year? and is it going to be worth it?

"It will be on the 45nm process and will operate at 2.53GHz. The processor will be in a P package and will have an FSB of 1066MHz.

You’ll get 12MB of L2 cache and a max TDP of 45 Watts."

Slated for 2009 however...

Apple has been known to pull a rabbit out and get Intel products to market faster, but, things will really have to progress for them to make it by 2008.

"Intel pushed back the launch of its Centrino 2 mobile processors and the first chipsets for the platform, code-named Montevina, from June to mid-July, an Intel spokesperson said Tuesday. The full platform won't be released until early August, the Intel spokesperson added. "

Link for that one here.

Regardless, this is going to be another stellar year for Intel! Things will really get interesting when the single silicon dies come out in quad core.

would a faster clock-speed dual-core processors perform worse than a slower clock-speed quad-core processors in general? i'm wondering about performance vs. energy consumption issues...

A faster dual core with beat a slow quad core in 90% of the things you do. Most programs are not forked so it doesn't matter.

yes we need a quad core, two internal drives. It is gonna be lovely.
