I own an early 2008 Mac Book Pro. I have had the DVD Super Drive replaced once under warranty and was just advised by the SFO genius bar that my new drive is also defective. I do have the extended protection plan so I can get the thing fixed but I am really disturbed by the quality issue.

Have any other Mac Book Pro owners experienced this sort of reliability issue?

Thanks and regards,

I have honestly never really liked the choices apple makes for their superdrives in notebooks. The drives always seem very finicky and too picky about the brand of media they'll actually burn fast and/or successfully.

That said I have an early 2008mbp as well and i have an LG drive in it according to my research and it's been better than others that I've had.

The matsushita/panasonics that they put in a lot of them are just garbage. I really had a lot of problems with the several that they put in my old powerbook.
