Since upgrading, Sequoia has created Documents and Applications "folders" (I guess) on my Desktop and placed the few items I had in those folders instead of leaving them where I put them. Nothing seems to remain on the left side of the screen. Instead, a second column on the right side has become the home for these folders.

How to I stop it from making these folders, and get it to let me place items on the left?

Note: When some files that were temporarily on the Desktop were deleted, leaving only one behind, that new Documents Folder disappeared.

Well, this must be something different. I opened this unwanted Applications "folder" which places the items on the Desktop. So now I see them, and the folder. Moving that now "empty" folder to the Trash results in the other items being moved to the Trash also. Just pulling those items back, not the folder, results in a new folder being made.

Isn't this a part of the function of stacks?

I don't work much with Sequoia yet (waiting for v. 15.3 - just my normal wait time on new macOS systems), but stacks appears to be expanded, and may also get impact from stage manager (?) plus tiling...? (I could be completely wrong on this, but maybe some combination of settings?)
