Mac desktop icons disappeared

All the icons on my desktop disappear whenever I sort it by "None", they reappear if I select any of the other types of ways to sort the icons. Does anyone know how to fix this? I want to manually arrange my icons thus this is becoming bothersome. I am on a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display running 10.10.1 (14B17).

sys/prefs/dock. turn off magnification then simply drag icons to where you want them.
