Mac drive disappeared

Option/Reboot lists only Windows drive and OS X drive is no longer in it. My Mac is MBA with OS X 10.6.8 (bought 3/30/2011). I have an external USB drive from which OS X 10.6.8 can be booted and can be used for trouble shooting purposes.
