Mac DVD Burning and Mac -> TV connection

I've got some .avi files on my macbook computer and I was wondering how to burn these to a dvd and what softwares and what process I need to do in order to convert + burn.

Also, I'm wanting to connect my macbook to my Samsung HDTV to watch some TV shows I have on my computer. What cords do I need to use in order to transfer the show from the macbook to the tv. Also, I have the newest macbook before they stopped making them for the airs.
