mac dvd player playing sound but no image

i have a macbook pro with snow leaopard, and this just started. I can hear everything, and can control, but can't see anything on the screen, it's all black. how do i fix this issue?
 
The same thing just happen to me on my powerbook. Sound but no image. It looks a software issue. I'm still able to play the DVD through VLC.
