I need to reset the time it takes a Western Digital IDE drive to spin up.
There are some DOS utilities that can probably do this, like HDAT2, or maybe hdparm in Linux, but I'd like something that I could run in Terminal. Part of the problem is that I'm currently using the drive via USB, and in virtual Linux or DOS machines hdparm or smartctl can't see drive itself, although it mounts correctly (HFS+).
The drive currently takes quite a few seconds to begin reading, which makes it a pain to try to use as a backup boot disk. It once lived in a system (DVR?) where it had to wait, hence the need to reset it.
