Mac every so often sound cuts out on Thunderbolt drive

I have Mac os on external Thunderbolt drive. It is very hot but i know they do get hot
Every so often the sound cuts out.
I have heard that Thunderbolt drives some times cut off
I cloned Mac with Carbon Copy Cloner
