I've been going to mac-forums for Mac help, even though this site came up first on Google for "mac forum" (without quotes of course), because it seemed more accurate (I don't discuss Mac rumors because I'm not a Mac enthusiast, I just use a Mac for work), however, I've noticed some "Senior Members" there are kind of stuck in a Mac fanboy snooty elitism that just gets in the way of issues being address... ie, they blame the user/app over macOS/Apple to the point of frustration and I've seen some of them get into flaming members.

I'm hoping "Senior Members" aren't like that here, because I genuinely need help with Mac stuff, as Google hasn't been the best for resolving issues with it (and I get some weird sticky ones).

Anyway, if this is site/forum is the best place to post Mac issues, to try to get them resolved, or find workarounds, even if it means something not AMAZING might be said about Mac or Apple, then I hope it's better than the other one. I've used a lot of forums for different electronics, and I hope the Mac/Apple community isn't too insulated to think that Mac/Apple could be the problem and that workarounds can be suggested until a fix is made.

I have had very few if any issues with members responding to specific how-to, support or tech questions, this community is really good in that regard.

Like society in general, on almost any topic, I think you will find 5% pro-fanboys, 5% anti-trolls and 90% of us are reasonable folks just trying to enjoy our day. The 5% on either side are easy to spot, resist the urge to feed them.

There are fanboys, but just ignore them and don't let them stop you from posting your questions. Most of us are here to help.

...and when I say ignore them, I mean figuratively and/or literally. Skip over their posts and don't respond to them; or if you need to, click their name and ignore them so you don't see their posts in the future.

I have noticed an arrogance here which is life.
what is great about these forums is (for example) there are ways to "install mojave on a 2009 MBP"
and we will guide you through the process.
then other will deny or not recommend this process.
and
have fun with the tim cook bashing here,
there were 7 pokes at him pertaining to his speech a some random college.

I think MR often is better than the Apple Support Communities message board for troubleshooting. Two other sites I use are:

You're going to find some conflict no matter where you go because this forum, as well as others, involves people. And people all have their own opinions, camps and hills that they are willing to die on.

But I would say that generally we all tend to get along. And for the rest, this forum features an ignore list as well as a follow list. You can make use of both, one or the other or neither as you need or wish.

If it means anything, I've been here 11 years (about half of this forum's existence). I too was looking for a new home in 2011. The community is great, especially those users in the sub-forums I frequent. I have no plans on leaving.

With thread have you had trouble with?
It doesn't matter. There were some "senior" members that seemed more protective of Apple than trying to just help a Mac user, some of which didn't understand the issue, gave bad info, and went on the offense when I pointed that out and had to re-explain (quite time-wasting and aggravating).
I think you will find 5% pro-fanboys
I think I found them there ?

I agree; pretty much anything's better than the Apple Support Communities ? Also, I can't really use them for this computer because it requires an Apple account which isn't mine on this computer, and I don't care to log into mine on this computer for the their support boards.
this forum features an ignore list
Really? Can you tell me how I could do that should I run into a problem? Maybe the other site has that; that's all I wanted from one member there, just leave me alone! He was so disruptive.
I guess he doesn't want my help!
Please don't jump to conclusions; this is the first I'm seeing this thread again because I'm going through emails. This isn't my highest priority, sorry.
Or maybe he just wanted to sign up to troll
Please, this kind of negativity was the problem with the member at the other board. Please don't jump to negative conclusions no matter how popular it may seem to be to do on any forum. Reddit's already drowning in it like it's lava.

If you are in a thread they happen to be in, roll your mouse cursor over their username. A box will pop up with user info and depending on how their preferences are set three or more buttons. Click on the 'Ignore" button. From that point on any content they post (including quotes of your posts) will not be displayed to you and you will receive no notifications.

Inside threads they post in you may sometimes run across an inline banner that says "You are ignoring content by this user. Click to show post.". You can click on that to see whatever they posted if you want. It won't remove them from your Ignore list.

If you post in places where they post a lot you may see post numbers jump, like say you're reading Post #10 and then the next post is Post #12 and not 11. That's because someone you are ignoring has posted in between. You aren't seeing their post because you have it set to ignore them.

You can remove them later if you want by the same process.

That's about it.

Reddit is a freaking train wreck of a community as a whole. Not negative, it was merely a thought, I mean it wouldn't be out of the norm for a person to do this.

But, I actually like this forum, one of the few places I come to on the regular.

It might be faster to ask for direct help as opposed to asking for a discussion if you'll get help or not. You can always decide afterwards if this is the right place.
