Mac Freezes from unknown process

For the last two weeks my iMac has continue to lock up and freeze and won't wake.

Is there any way to identify what process is causing the machine to freeze?

I have tried everything to get the computer back but the only thing that works is to restart.

Any ideas or suggestions?
