Hi, I am having some issues with my Macbook. It doesn't matter what file it is. Every time I download a .dmg file and it finishes its download and is about to mount, my mac freezes up and a dark screen drops down and tells me to reboot my computer?

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this problem?

??

I have no idea what I am looking for in those logs..??

Has anyone had similar problem?

Sorry..I'm used to looking at *nix crash logs. (years of working as a *nix software engineer).

After you reboot you can look at the log and go back to the time the crash happened. Sometimes you'll see something in the log about which program crashed, which helps to narrow it down.

I re-read your post. Are you trying to just download it or open it? When I download a .dmg, I always set it to save on desktop, then after it downloads open it. Try that and then you'll have an idea if it's something with the download or opening.

It freezes when I try to open the file. For example. I downloaded the Dreamweaver trial from Adobe and it downloaded, then when I try to open it that is when my computer freezes?

i have the new intel based aluminum macbook...

i have tried tons of files, every time it is the same problem...

I'd expect something's wrong with the downloaded file or you have a PPC MacBook and you're downloading Intel .dmg.

A .dmg file won't care whether you're running PPC or Intel. It's merely a mountable disc image that's handled by the OS. It's the program inside that would fail to launch.

That would be like saying a .rar file with a OS 10.5 file inside wouldn't open on a 10.3 machine, but it would, because .rar is .rar regardless of what's inside.

I don't know how knowledgeable you are using Terminal or how comfortable you are with it, but I've found this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=150871

Looks like that's for people with a Hackintosh (Mac OS on a non-Mac computer), but it may apply.

http://code.google.com/p/xnu-dev/issues/detail?id=135 The guys there are saying replacing the seatbelt.kext from 10.5.6 with the 10.5.5 one fixes the issue as well

I think you can disable the system checking dmg files before it mounts them. but i can't quite remember how.
