Mac frequency generator card?

Hopefully this is the right place for this query. I want to dial in a frequency, pipe it into an amplifier which outputs to a transducer (high frequency horn) or speaker. Does a card exist that could be used for this purpose? Assuming one exists, would a dedicated card offer advantages over some of the software frequency generators out there? My interest is not audio, per se, but several scientific/engineering applications. That said, maybe a hardware solution geared towards music might be able to do the job?

You shouldn't need hardware for that. Just use software to generate the tone. Then connect your audio out to the preamp.
