My second thread is another help thread.
This is just the best place I could find to help

Here is my problem..

I have a 2006 White Mac. Basic normal mac (running 10.6.8) but it makes a clicking sound when the fan is on. (i can hear it)

I was wondering if that has anything to do with the fact that when I try and watch a youtube video, or I try and skype call or even play minecraft the mac shuts down completely. With no warning or explanation.

Is this the mac overheating? Do I need to update something? Or is it the video card?

Thank you for any help

Zachary

It sounds like a graphics issue. Also, it could potentially be the hard drive as that's normally what makes a clicking noise.

But, those symptoms point directly at the graphics card.

Yeah, I kinda figured it was something to do with either the heat or the card itself going bad.

The strange thing is that every other thing about the computer doesn't cause it to fail. But just the video (besides quicktime player) and skype calls.

like a constant clicking issue, or a hard drive knock?

your fan might just be going out because its having to run at such high RPMs

or if it freezes then knocks then goes to normal, then your HD is on its way out the door

open up your mac and take a look, maybe clean it out

To me it sounds like the fan is clicking.
I plan on opening it up and cleaning the fan out.
Any tips when I do open it up..like what to look for?

Not to bump this thread.
But I recently recorded what my mac sounds like after some use.

Is this fan? or hard drive?

What can I do to solve this?

My gosh. That is ridiculous.

It's definitely not the hard drive. Sounds like an unaligned fan or a screw/piece of metal hitting the fan. I would take it open and move the fans around a bit and make sure nothing is obstructing them.
