Mac froze while Installing, Black Screen with Circle

HELP! I left my mac updating and when out to run some errands. I came back to find a black screen with a white crossed out circle in the middle of the screen. I tried restarting it, got nothing and I tried restarting it in safe mode and was unable to. Any idea whats going on and how to go about restarting the installation.

Hold down CMd+ r when restarting and select reinstall macOS from the window which appears.
