I have a sonnet card installed but the G4 Quicksilver can't seem to recognize my MAXTOR 250 GB hard drive? Any idea why or how I can go about installing my new HD?

G4: 1 ghz
TYPE: Server
CARD: Sonnet ATA100
OS: X Server 10.2.8

You need an ATA 100 or 133 bus to be able to "see' more than 128 GB.
The MDD G4's and Xserves have them built in, but you can buy PCI ATA 133 cards for older PCI based PowerMacs.

I must say this question turns up alot, and not surprizingly. Many buy large HD's nowadays, but forget to check out the requirements. Unfortunately the HD resellers don't warn you...

Man, talk about not reading his post very carefully.

He said he has a Sonnett card, meaning he has support for higher capacity drives. He is wondering why it wont work.

My advice: Check Sonnett's webpage for updates. If not, try physically reseating the card and/or try plugging in everything again.

My apologies but here's a more accurate spec:

-- 1 ghz G4 Server
-- Sonnet ATA100 card installed
-- OS X Server 10.2.8

I am thinking it may be that I need an ATA133 card instead or should the ATA100 work? I searched www.sonnettech.com for some statement about ATA100 and larger hard drives but found none... Any final suggestions and THANKS for all the help so far ----- thanks.

Did a quick Google search on ATA 100 and > 128 GB hard drives.
Seems that you indeed need ATA 133 for larger disks... (initially i thought ATA 100 would be sufficient)
Unlucky....
