Curious to know, do you need both sides of the Mac G4 to be attached to the case for the system to run? I notced when I took the sides off that both sides have a metal piece with wire attached to it. The wire is attached to the metal piece and then runs down through the G4 and up the other side of the case to another metal piece. Not sure what the use of that is.....

Just to answer your first question, you don't need the sides of the case on for the Mac to work. They are just fascia panels and have no other function than to make the Mac 'look' good.

Thanks, my G4 Quicksilver wont power on. I hit the power button and it turns on for a second then shuts off.

I tried things like removing the battery, hitting the button next to the battery holder, letting it sit for 30 min, then replacing the battery and powering back on with no luck. Also tried some other steps with no luck either (RAM / etc). I had the sides off as I was cleaning them and thought maybe it had something to do with it. Think my board or processor board may have gone bad then.....

Thanks for the info.

It's probably your PSU.

Try disconnecting the hard drive.
Yes, no hard drive installed.
Power on -- it won't boot, but you will see a flashing folder/?, because there's no boot system found.
Does the power stay on (and does not shut off without you actually holding the power button, or just pulling the power cord)?
If there's no change (and it again shuts off after a few seconds), then yes, could be that PSU.
