Every time I start my ibook G3 the mac HD icon has "jumped" into a different position. I move it back to the top right hand corner, but after shutting down and starting again its jumped back to a different place. i thought the upgrade to 10.3 would do it but it still wont stay still?! Any ideas?

The same thing has happened to me ever since I upgraded to Panther. I finally made the switch from Jaguar a couple of weeks ago, updated directly to 10.3.5 - and this problem keeps happenning.

I already did a repair permissions (right after the upgrade to 10.3.5, I always do it after an update), but the problem keeps appearing everytime I restart.

Any other ideas on how this can be fixed?

Create a new user and see if it has the same problem. If all you did was an Archive and Install set-up, you may still have a corrupt user preference dangling around in there somewhere. For reference, it is suggested for major OS upgrades that you back-up and do an Erase procedure.

I had this same problem. It just happens because you have folders/documents too close to the hard drive icon. Move them away from it a li'l bit and that should work :)

do you have other documents on the Desktop? or just the HD icons?

if you've got other stuff on there, yeah, it'll move around. but it should always default to the top-right corner, or at least as close as is possible considering any other items you might have on your Desktop.
