Mac HD Icon

Hey guys

Ok so my mac HD icon has disappeared off my desktop, not sure where it went tried to get it back, byt dragging the one in finder onto the desktop, however when i did that it disappeared into a little puff of smoke.

Now i cant view the HD in finder or see it on my desktop.

Can someone tell me how to add a new device in finder and how to get it back on my desktop ...

Try opening up your Finder preferences and seeing if "Show hard disks" is checked.

In the Finder preferences there are checkboxes to show hard drives on the desktop and sidebar. Just click on your desktop and hit command-, to enter finder prefs.

First thing to check – take a look in your Finder's Preferences (in the Finder menu in the Menu Bar). Under the General tab there are tick boxes to show various items on the Desktop, one of them is hard disks – make sure the tick box is ticked.

Finder -> Preferences ... Show these items on desktop ...

Then on the Sidebar tab, check the box.
