Hello everyone!
Whenever I verify disk permissions/disk on Disk Utility, it tells me the volume needs to be repaired, and to do this I must insert the Mac OS X start-up disk and blah blah blah

The only problem is, my slot where you put CDs is completely wrecked  (I'm very hard on my computer). Is there any other way to fix this?

You can't repair a volume without using disk utilities on the install disk.

Out of interest, how on earth can you "Wreck a slot?"

You could use a friend's computer to make an image of the install disk onto a bootable external HD then use that HD to repair your disk.

Or you could go to an AppleStore because if your disk needs repair, it could be a sign of failure so it'd be a good idea to get checked out.

How can you wreck a slot? Well, you can have a very inquisitive 6 year-old who decides to jam whatever he can fit in there. :(
