Is there a nicer app that will run Yahoo messenger for me.... Just wondering if there is some cool IM software out there for the Mac that some of you use instead of the standard software ie.. MS, Yahoo, AIM etc...

Well, iChat is the AIM client that ships with your computer. It also does Jabber (is Yahoo Jabber?)

Other than the official Yahoo! client, I can't think of any other clients that do Yahoo!

Do NOT under any circumstances use the official AIM software for Mac from AOL. It is very old, outdated, and PowerPC only.

Another vote for Adium. I have friends on various IM systems and Adium allows me to chat with all of them. With the custom icons and interfaces you can make it really stand out or virtually disappear when it's open.

Adium is the best. Completely customizable, supports practically every client, works great on the Mac.

And they should be adding audio and video conferencing soon, which is another plus.

Another vote for Adium over here.

Here's the exhaustive list of the protocols it supports:
  • AIM
  • Jabber
  • ICQ
  • .Mac
  • Yahoo! Messenger
  • MSN
  • Gadu-Gadu
  • Bonjour
  • LiveJournal
  • Novell GroupWise and
  • QQ
