My Mac has been running incredibly sluggish lately. Any suggestions on how to get it to run like new again ?

Repair permissions. Check Activity Monitor(all processes) to see if anything is hogging the CPU. I had to sort out an iMac recently that had almost ground to a halt. Turned out to be a McAffee Virus scanner using 80 - 85% of the CPU.

Tyr another account to see whether it's the computer or just your account.

Also check how much free space you have left on the HD. Then tend to run slowly if it is getting close to being full.

Reset your SMC and PRAM, then get rid of any un-needed applications you have, files, and check your login items, that's in system pref>users>then login items, and check your background processes too :)

Copy all of the stuff you really want to keep over to an external, then reinstall the entire OS. Then it will run like new!
