Mac keeps Crashing Openoffice

i have to use Open Office Base(equivalent to access) and it keeps crashing after about 5 minutes of use. Its really aggravating. Also it seems to lag when going through records. I have a refurb Base 2.53 Macbook pro 15 inch.

What's your HD non-used/spare space size like? Have you watched the app in activity monitor to monitor memory usage?
Could check the logs to see why its crashing also. Could be that a delete and reinstall of OpenOffice could help work out if mac is crashing openoffice, or vice versa.
