Mac Light Problem

Hi, I turned my computer on today to find me screen being very dark
I can see and all but it's not close to optimal
I tryed pushing the light buttons but it says it can't turn it down or up
What do I do ?

Do you have some specs ( ie. What model is it?)

Macbook Pro late 2006 or early 07

I'll assume that's either a 15" or 17" Core 2 Duo.
Have you tried an external monitor? If it's a backlight problem on the laptop LCD an external monitor will show a normal desktop. If it's a video hardware problem the problem will also show up on the external monitor.
