I have a Mac Mini M2 Pro, and a MacBook air M2 and they are both exhibiting the same behavior. I have the lock screen set to require password set on both, but I have seen that if I don't unlock it for about a day or two, when I try to login it won't accept my password. I have to power off the unit and then the password works. I currently have the password option disabled, as I can't predict when it will happen again..

"wireless keyboard(s)"

Then... try a WIRED (USB) keyboard.
I'd suggest a used Macally from ebay. They can be had for very cheap.

the apparent issue appears as if I'm typing the 'wrong' password. I'm positive that I am in fact typing it correctly. What's odd is that it only started to happen on the Mac Mini after I upgraded to Sequoia. I have reset NVRAM, PRAM but only a reboot resolves the issue....

"If the two Macs don't display the issue when using a wired keyboard then what is the conclusion?"

The owner stated he uses wireless (perhaps bluetooth?) keyboards.
I'm thinking that the Macs are going to sleep, and when he tries to wake them up something isn't "synching" right with the wireless keyboards (which have to re-establish their connection with the Mac after wakeup), and the correct characters/digits for the password aren't "getting through".

With a WIRED keyboard, it should be "live" almost immediately (perhaps before) the "wake up"...

Just something to try.
If it works, it works.
If it doesn't work, try something else.

Actually, my REAL advice to the owner would be:
SHUT DOWN the computers if they're not going to be used for 4 hours or more...

With the MBA experiencing the same behavior, all OP has to do in order to eliminate the wireless keyboard, is use the built-in keyboard on the Air. If that’s not working, then it’s not a keyboard issue.

I think it's a bug in MacOS but I'm not really sure.
possible, I'll monitor it going forward. another thing I've noticed on my Mac Mini, I get the spinning beachball, but it won't allow me to force quit (the app that it's stuck on) and won't allow me to do anything else, again I have to use the power button to shut it down (Apple menu option doesn't work). everything comes back after it boots up. this has happened 3 or 4x already.....

I had this same problem today on a wired keyboard

Mac mini m2 pro , after rebooting
My password wouldn’t work
I had to shut down the mini and restart for the password to work
Latest macOS

I should clarify
My keyboard worked fine , the password I’ve been using for years was entered , like 5 times

Only on another restart did it work

This sounds very much like a bug. Given it takes a day or two to manifest, my money is on slow buffer overrun somewhere leading to corruption.

I'm just scheduling my Mac mini to reboot once a week, that way, I should avoid it until they fix it in an update...
