As noted all over, Mavericks Mail.app 7.0 and its update seem to have issues with Gmail. This caused me to plumb into the depths of the ~/Library/Mail folder, and its contents confuse me.
There are obviously folders corresponding to accounts, like foo@gmail.com@gmail.com, with the mailboxes and then a structure like an iPhoto library. Fine, but why is there a duplicate in the V2 folder? The .emlx emails don't seem to be duplicated.
There are also lots of empty mailboxes (except for a plist).
I don't really worry about it, and it may be a hangover from having migrated from computer to computer and Mac OS system to system.
But it also turns out that there are tons of mailboxes from my current email account that I had previously thought I had deleted. And even whole directories of messages and mailboxes from even accounts I had thought I had deleted.
Does Mail keep every IMAP mailbox you delete?
Does Mail keep every email account you delete?
There is nothing in Mail.app to indicate these old emails still existed on my computer. Apple's Help and KB article says it permanently removes the data, but it obviously didn't on my computer, and I don't recall doing anything to prevent it. And I especially don't understand what settings I've got that keep deleted mailboxes from current accounts from being gone from my computer.
Housecleaning help appreciated.
