Hello,

I have started using Mail with my gmail account.

Is there anyway I can make a folder and get it to automatically put new mail from a specific source into a folder??

In the same way that by telling the email client a sourceis spam, it automatically goes into the bin.

I want to do this so that I can have a Family folder and have their mail directed straight into that, while work can come into another folder and so on for my various activities.

Can anybody shed some light on this situation?

Sam

Yes There are things called "Smart Mailboxes" in mail.app

Give me a few mins to find a link for you. I have them set up on my computer (For family, iTunes receipts, credit card statements, etc).

Wicked man!! :)

Thanks tons for doing that.

Smart folders are a way of getting a filtered view on your mail messages, but the messages themselves will remain in the inbox folder. If you want to actually move messages to another folder based on certain criteria (such as where it's from), you need to set up a rule. You can do this in Mail Preferences->Rules.

If you need specific instructions, here's a nice tutorial:

Wouldn't it be better to do this server side w/ gmail labels which make folders in Mail? Then web mail and Mail are synched.

what are the pros/cons?
