Mac mail: email message is not the same as the one sent

Occasionally, when I open an email from my son it is not the same one that he sent.

Instead, when I click on his message, what opens up is a random message that I had received in the past (sometimes as much as 2 years ago) from another person. My son is also on a Mac using Mac Mail. This doesn't happen all of the time, but is very annoying and strange.

This has only happened with message from him (so far).

Any thoughts?
