Is Google playing silly buggers with GMail in an effort to break email application's like Mac's Mail App?
I've got a few Gmail email accounts and I prefer to use the Mac Mail application to read/write emails.
It had been having sync issues for a while with read emails but that was resolved by an Apple update.
Now I'm finding that other things are breaking.
I can't search through archived emails on the Mac Mail app, emails I archive re-appearing and long delays in mail being marked as read.
As someone who's been writing software professionally for more than 3 decades it stinks of the same shenanigans that M$ played with breaking any web browser but their own IE.
Google trying to break mail apps in an effort to get people to use their web front end for GMail?

Well, I can't speak for Mail on macOS, as for some reason I've just always used Gmail's web front end for email on desktop (I also have multiple accounts, and it's easy enough to have those open in a few browser tabs), but I use Mail on iOS all the time and rarely have any issues. So I don't think your hypothesis (sabotage by Google) is correct.

I rarely have any issues with Gmail and macOS Mail but that's going only up to Mojave…and…I have little experience using the Archive folder. I move messages I want to keep to various folders and haven't noticed any issues with syncing or finding messages in those folders.

What version of macOS are you using and when did you notice these issues?

Big Sur 11.5.2
Started a week or two ago.
The previous issue, which went on for almost a year, was I'd read mail on my Mac but on iOS the Mail app would continue to show those read messages as unread. Really annoying. That was fixed when I updated to Big Sur.

These corporate shenanigans in IT have been common place for years. A week ago I got an email from Ring saying they were end of life-ing their excellent Mac OS desktop app for Ring Camera's. (Windows App too).
Instead Ring users are encouraged to use their web browser to view and manage cameras or use the mobile App.
That's fine and dandy but then you try using the web app and it says "sorry this only works on Chrome or Edge".
Doesn't work on either Safari or Firefox - the 2 browsers that have made an attempt at privacy and block tracking.
Ring is owned by Amazon. You know, they guys who seem to know what products you've recently browsed/researched elsewhere and who then pay google to place adverts in front of you for those products on amazon's store.
Draw your own conclusions from that...
