Lately I have started receiving a lot of "Junk" mail. These are "Insurance", "Retirement Homes", "Deadly Fat" just to mention a few.
I looked over the task bar to see if there was a way to eliminate these, I couldn't find anything. Any suggestions ??

Have you enabled Junk filtering on the OS X Mail client? Open Mail then hit command-comma to open preferences and look at this screen. This is from El Capitan, but earlier versions are similar.

Yep you can mark as junk/spam and never receive another from that email address but the ad people will just hit you with the same thing using a different email address. Same with calls, I can block them on my iPhone but they call the next day with a new number.
