Working on an iMac still running OS X 10.6.8 (getting it ready for Yosemite) and after cleaning out a bunch of old mail in the Mail app, I deleted 2 smart mailboxes and added 2 regular mail boxes because they'll be more useful for this person's needs. But the header that read "On My Mac" (in the far left column) and use to separate the Inbox above from the Mailboxes below has disappeared.
I've rebuilt all mailboxes and tossed plist files but that didn't bring them back. The only thing that does bring them back is created a new smart mailbox -- as soon as I do that, I get a heading for Smart Mailboxes and one for "On My Mac". But when I delete the smart mailboxes, all the headings (except the top one that reads "Mailboxes") disappear again.
I saw a note posted here about 5 years ago complaining about the same thing, but the short discussion that ensued never offered a fix, so...
Can anybody suggest what's going on here, and how to fix it?
