mac mail rules

hi,

i have a bunch of rules for each of my mail boxes folders. (eg delete after 10 days)

I have one folder, "folder X" How can I see of the rules above actually apply?
its a new recent rule

New versions of Mail should automatically apply rules once created (or at least prompt you to do so), otherwise, go into your inbox, select all the messages and from a menu up top (can't remember off the top of my head) there will be a "Apply rules..." option you can select that will apply it retroactively for all old mail highlighted.
