Mac Mail v3.6 suddenly wonky.....

Last week, for no apparent reason and without any changes made to system software, my Mac Mail mailboxes have suddenly been going offline. I must either hit the 'Get Mail' button or manually take all accounts online. All of my settings are correct and my ISP says it's not their problem since I'm able to send and receive mail. This is on a G5 Dual 2.3 10.5.8

Thoughts?

Two days and nothing.....

Do ya think that maybe my synching a new iPhone to this computer has anything to do with the problem?!!

I have experienced the same problem but I have no answer. Is there a more recent version of Mac Mail available?
