I am considering picking up an older Mac Mini on eBay (MacMini2,1) with Intel GMA 950 graphics. I use a MBA primarily for coding, but I wanted a second machine at my remote location where taking my MBA is not always convenient (an oxymoron perhaps, but bear with me :)).

This is purely a secondary machine for iPhone development. I will only handle light XCode work, since the really heavy-lifting will be on my MBA. No games, videos, etc.

Does anyone have experience working with this machine for this purpose? I could bump the RAM if I had to, but am thinking the 1GB included might actually work. Any input?

Thanks in advance!

You'll need to bump up the ram if you ever want to (have to) run lion. I'm guessing it wont be long before the iOS SDK stops supporting 10.6.

It'll run fine. More memory is a good idea of course. Also an SSD or 7200 RPM drive will help make it feel snappier for general OS/Program usage.

Thanks

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I'll probably end up holding off until I can find one of these bad boys for around $200. 4GB RAM is first on the upgrade list!

The 2,1 can only address 3GB (wiki says 3GB, I thought it was 3.3 ), the 3,1 however can address 8GB.
