Hi everyone,

I bought a used Mac mini from 2009. I knew it wasn't working, but I didn't knew how "bad" it is. The pevious owner ripped off the pins AND the solder pads for the power on button. Does anybody know any alternative circuits/points I can use? I already tried solder something on but it doesn't work. Please help me before I freak out.

Single-pole, normally-open momentary switch?
You ought to be able to boot by just touching a wire momentarily between what is left of the contact traces.
IOW, did you try soldering in the right type of switch?
Continued pressing, or contact, will power down the mini.
-Just a shot in the dark. I've never ripped one of the things off, but it seems like a pretty simple momentary switch. A micro-switch pulled from an old microwave should do the job, if you've got a good enough soldering iron. That last is critical, because somewhere back in the stoneage, Apple switched to EU friendly leadless solder. It needs a higher temp than your old Radio Shack solder-pen can reach easily. I use a Hakko FX888D-23BY Digital Soldering Station these day. It'll reach the temp. you need. Hakko has a bunch of other models out now. It looks like Weller has finally caught on, and is no longer selling just old junk anymore. So if you are Old-School...

I tried to solder on Kynar Wire (and solder to the the ORIGINAL switch). But the problem is that one of the soldering points at which one of the pins was soldered to is totally RIPPED OFF. So even if I could solder to that point it wouldn’t work. I need an alternative point. Maybe someone with a working board and a multimeter could help me out, I would be really grateful for that.

EDIT: I will post pics of the contacts later on.

If you can't fix this cheaply -- and I mean CHEAPLY -- it's not worth bothering with...
