Simple question, I know, but I still have to ask, because I know you guys have more experience in this, but... we have been using Davinci Resolve on a Mac Mini. We've run into some slugging issues. Any tips? You may want to know more details on our equipment first, correct?

M4, 16 RAM on board, Storage - 245 gigs on board...
and lately, we've been working off of two external storage drives (like thumb drives), 1 TB each, that plug into the Mini. (c-type)
And no, we are not working from any external network (cloud?)

My guess is the "like thumbdrives". Are they actually thumbdrives or external SSD drives? What resolution/bit depth are you trying to work at? 16Gigs of memory is kinda low by today's standards for content creation.

I am told the "thumbdrives" act as external SSD drives so that we don't put too much on the internal SSD drive.
And we're doing everything in the basic 1920 X 1080

Thumb drives are not fast storage devices. Either get a real external SSD drive or load it up on the internal. Just my opinion.

The external drives...
Are they:
- platter-based hard drives?
- SSDs?
- USB flash drives?
(what you're using can make the difference)

Please, always be specific and give us names, model numbers or photos of your hardware, so we can evaluate better. You can't expect and won't get meaningful help without delivering as much information as possible beforehand.

I as others already do suspect you are using USB sticks and try to edit from there. This is an absolut no go. They can't sustain input/output of data for long and would slow down loading and saving data on them significantly, especially cache files if you edit from them.

Try to get an external USB 3/4 NVME enclosure with at least 10Gbs speeds and load it up with a 2TB drive. Edit from this drive. Best would be a Thunderbolt enclosure for additional speed benefits, if you are time constraint.

Give us specific details about the hardware you use.
