Hey everyone. I'm planning on replacing my current Mac Mini (1.8, 1GB of ram) with one of the new models when they come out. Obviously, no one knows the exact specs these things will sport (speculation, please!), but please just entertain this inquiry.

Primarily, I'll be using the new Mini in a MAME setup (along with every other emulator under the sun, including NulDC for Dreamcast emulation and even a few PSX roms). The Mini will be powering a 55' LED TV and a massive control panel with 8 USB connections, and outputting via HDMI. I'll be using the Hyperspin front end on Windows XP (Bootcamp).

I'm aware that I could probably get a similar PC for cheaper, but I really don't want to. I've been running my old Mini non-stop for almost 2 years and have never had an issue (rock-solid computer, IMO). I also like the ease of use the HDMI output provides, as well as the tiny form factor and one-year warranty that's extendable via AppleCare. And finally, I just wouldn't be able to live with myself… ;)

My question is, do you guys think the new Mini will allow me to run everything smoothly? On my current Mini, Hyperspin (when used fullscreen) is a little too much. I'm not sure if I'm bottoming out on the measly 1GB of ram or the processor/GPU is just not up to the task,

Is anyone out there running Hyperspin on a current Mini? How does it run? Do you have trouble playing 3D MAME roms like Tekken?

Thanks!

What makes you say that?

I doubt they'd eliminate what was one of the main focuses of their 2010 Mac Mini marketing.

Just a thought with the new thunderbolt port it might be possible that they would eliminate the hdmi port and make it compatible with only the cinema display. I am waiting for the new mac mini server aswell but if they do ditch the hdmi port I will buy the 2010 model.

current mini has hdmi and a minidisplay port. The new will have hdmi and thunderbolt (same mini displayport connector).
