I have today a 2019 MBP 13" 1.4 Ghz which I sometimes use for music production. It works fine performance-wise, but it gets noisy when pushed a bit eventhough the MBP is in clamshell-mode in a vertival rack with plenty of space.

This is a bit annoying which have made me consider the Mac Mini (i7). However would I get as much noise with that one if I push it? Since I dont have a lack of power per se there would be no need to get a new mac that will just get as loud as this one.

Thanks xyz. So running a few VIs plugis 20 tracks wont really cause the Mac Mini to spin loud?

I have never been able to hear mine make any noise whatsoever, but I do have a Desktop Tower running underneath the dest that the mini is on with 4 fairly silent fans, an Overclocked 2500k @4.5 Ghz with a video Card.

You want me to turn off my Tower, TV, and turn on the Mini w/o anything else??
I'll do it if you ask! ;)

Also you can get the Mini and try it at home and return if too noisy.

Do you do Orchestral music? Movie scores?

I'm going to fire up my i7 mini now. I'll let you know.

Just did;
I can hear no noise that I can discern.

Good luck on the Choice!

Thanks xyz! Very helpful! I do both some acoustic only recordings but also sometimes play around with a lot of VIs for some electronic music. Good point about the option to test and return if needed!
