I am looking to get rid of DirecTv and my tivos and I was thinking of possibly buying a mac mini as an "entertainment hub"

I would like to be able to rip my dvd's to the mac, connect the mac to my television and watch them through my television monitor. I would alter the mac mini back and forth between my my television and computer monitor, depending on what I am doing.

Is this idea at all realistic? I was thinking that I could burn dvd's with my mac the ripper software that I already have.

Also, I have an emac and an ibook - is there any way to use the mac mini with either of these monitors, or do I need to use a stand alone monitor?

If anyone has any alternate suggestions, I would be interested in those as well. I thought about getting a dvd with a hard drive, but anything decent costs almost as much as the computer, so why not add a new mac to my collection?:)
