Is anyone placing their Studio Display on top of a Mac Mini to get a bit of extra height?

How is that working for you?
 
I wouldn't put anything "of weight" on top of the Mini.
Besides, what if you need to access ports on the back? Chances are you're going to have to move the display first.

Put the Mini "off to" either side, a little towards the back of the table.
Works better that way.
