I've acquired a Mac mini 1.5 Core Solo, with a working Combo drive.

My girlfriend's MacBook has a slightly dead superdrive in it, which won't even read discs.

Can I swap the two (the mini won't need an optical drive for what I'm using it for)? I'm assuming height would be the only potential failing point...

The mini's drive has the following on the top of it:

COMBO 8124A
MODEL CW-8124-C

...while the MacBook's System Profiler seems to show the drive in there as a Matshita UJ-857.

The Mini (last I heard) uses 12mm drives, the MacBook and MacBook Pro use 9.5mm drives (where those values are the height)

Yes - different heights (thickness?) - the combo drive in the MacBook is a 8221A and the MacMini one will be too thick !!
