Currently have a iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
It is no longer taking the new OS's Apple is putting out, and I would like to upgrade.
If I buy a new Mac Mini, can I use the iMac as a monitor? Not sure if 2015 iMac support Target Display Mode.
Torn with going this route or getting a new iMac 24" (since they no longer offer 27")

Can't use your iMac as Target Display Mode, 1 year too new. Don't get the iMac 24", it's 2 years outdated already and not worth the money over a Mini + monitor

As the poster above me says you can't use your iMac as a display.

I also agree that I would be hesitant to buy an iMac now since I suspect an M2 date will happen soon. The M1 isn't outdated at all because it can do anything the M2 can do. The issue is how long will it be supported for the latest operating system. Since you keep your Macs for so long I would be hesitant in your shoes. For my use I wouldn't think twice about buying one because I'm not going to keep it for more than five or six years. After that I'll sell it and upgrade.

Also, there is a good difference between 24" in 27" when it comes to display. It doesn't sound like a lot but it is.

Your only option if you don't want to compromise, is a Mac mini with a Studio Display. Any other display is going to be a compromise that you're going to notice. Only you know if that's going to bother you. I went from an Intel Mac mini with connected to a terrible 32" Samsung 1080P display to a 24 inch iMac. That's an extreme example, but even with a 27" 4K display, there's going to be some compromise. This is another scenario where I recommend going to a physical store if possible. Even if you don't buy from that store, look at the display and write down the model number. Not only look at it, but use the computer and see how text looks on that display. It may look great displaying a movie, but when you go to type text it doesn't look so great.

I know I just made everything a bit more confusing 🤣
