Mac mini dvi-vga adapter prob

I have a mac mini with a dvi to vga adapter for older monitor cables but my screen is seeing discoloration when I wiggle the cables.

I tightened the thumb screws pretty good and it seems very stable but I still see discoloration and if I wiggle the adapter the problem disappears (at least for some time)

Is this the adapter problem or the cable on my monitor?

I had the same problem with my VGA adapter. It was the adapter though. I now use a DVI one, but I might take it in to see if I could get it replaced.
