So my parents currently use a 4 yr old Dell desktop for Internet and email. I gave my mom my old mbp and she watches movies and Internet etc on it now. I want to get my parents a mac mini so we can use our monitor and everything etc. My dad will just use this for online billing and Internet.

I figure I can get it for 550 with student discount then sell the iPod for 200 ao net cost would be 350. What do you guys think? Will the performance be suitable?

Mac Mini's are great, small, powerful machines, I recommend to get one.

Oh and don't forget about the free printer deal, I think it ends on July 20.

Yeah it's a good idea. I just did this for my mom, and now 2 other extended parts of the family are going to buy one as well. Everyone has enjoyed playing around with hers at family gatherings and such.

I've tried to convince my parents to get one as well. They are currently using 6 years old HP PC. My mum loves my iMac, especially its keyboard but my dad isn't so exited. He thinks that spending 500€ for Mini is useless because they use only Internet, Outlook and Excel and he thinks that he have no time to learn how to use OS X. Though he was very exited about virus protection for Mac, because it don't need one :apple: When their PC dies, I will get them a Mini, like it or not. I take it if they don't :D

Exactly.. iPod touch rebate is only for macbooks and imacs..

Only Mini doesn't qualify

PRODUCT ELIGIBILITY: Only the following Apple Computers qualify for this promotion: iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Pro (“Apple Computers”). Configure-to-order
versions of these Apple Computers qualify for this offer. Refurbished Apple Computers do not qualify. Mac mini does not qualify. All iPod models in the table below qualify for this promotion.
Refurbished iPod models do not qualify. The eligible Apple Computers and iPod models listed herein are collectively referred to as “Qualifying Products.”

I bought a Mini for my mom a year or so ago.

And I'll be putting a PC back there soon.

She liked the Mac, liked the apps, the layout, etc.

BUT, even with VMware Fusion, I couldn't make it do what she needed.

1. The freakin' Red Cross' internal training website seems to require Internet Explorer.

2. Games like Mahjongg and such that you see in the grocery store are flash based for Windows. And they HATE virtualization.

So for these kinds of reasons, I will be putting a tiny PC in the place of her Mini and coming up with a use for it myself. Maybe I can convert my sister...
